        เมื่อกลางเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ 2563 สถาบันเทคโนโลยีนิวเคลียร์และพลังงานใหม่ (The Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology) ตั้งอยู่ในมหาวิทยาลัยซิงหัว กรุงปักกิ่งประกาศร่วมกับบริษัทพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีนิวเคลียร์ จำกัด (CGNNT) ถึงผลสำเร็จของการประยุกต์ใช้เทคโนโลยีการฉาย “ลำแสงอิเล็กตรอน” เพื่อฆ่าเชื้ออุปกรณ์การแพทย์ เวชภัณฑ์จากหน่วยงานการแพทย์ ถือเป็นส่วนสำคัญช่วยฆ่าเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนาไม่ให้ระบาดไปมากกว่านี้

            คาดการณ์ว่าจากนี้ไปบริษัทผลิตสินค้าและบริษัทขนส่งหลายแห่งจะนำเทคโนโลยีนิวเคลียร์นี้มาใช้ “ฆ่าเชื้อไวรัส” มากขึ้น โดยเฉพาะการยิงลำแสงอิเล็กตรอนลงบนพื้นผิวของ บรรจุภัณฑ์หรือพวกกล่องวัสดุ หีบห่อที่อยู่ในกระบวนการบรรจุสินค้า เพื่อกำจัดเชื้อโรคทุกชนิดไม่ว่าจะเป็น ไวรัส แบคทีเรีย จุลินทรีย์ที่ติดมากับพื้นผิวของบรรจุภัณฑ์ เนื่องจากเครื่องเร่งอนุภาคอิเล็กตรอนแบบนี้ ทำงานด้วยระดับพลังงานต่ำประมาณไม่เกิน 10 ล้านอิเล็กตรอนโวลท์ จึงเหมาะกับพื้นผิววัสดุที่กล่องไม่ใหญ่จนเกินไป

            ในอดีตตั้งแต่หลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 มนุษย์พยายามนำ “พลังงานปรมาณู” หรือ พลังงานที่เกิดจากการสลายตัวของนิวเคลียสมาใช้ประโยชน์ด้านการแพทย์ อุตสาหกรรม เกษตรกรรมหลายรูปแบบด้วยกัน โดยเฉพาะรังสีที่นำมาใช้รักษาโรคหรือการแพทย์ เช่น รังสีเอกซ์ รังสีแกมมา รังสีอัลตราไวโอเลต รวมถึง “ลําแสงอิเล็กตรอน” (E-beam) สภาพเป็นคลื่นแม่เหล็กไฟฟ้ามีความยาวคลื่นสั้นแต่มีความถี่สูงกว่ารังสีอื่นๆ

             ส่วนรังสีที่คนไทยคุ้นเคยกันดีคือ “รังสีแกมมา” เพราะถูกนำมาใช้ถนอมอาหาร健康食品อย่างแพร่หลาย ตัวอย่างที่ใช้บ่อยเช่น หอมหัวใหญ่ มันฝรั่ง กระเทียม ขิง ฯลฯ ยับยั้งไม่ให้ “รากงอก”  ออกมาระหว่างการเก็บรักษา เช่น หอมหัวใหญ่ปกติเก็บได้นาน 2 - 3 เดือน แต่หลังฉายรังสี健康เก็บได้อย่างน้อย 5 เดือน รวมถึงการชะลอการสุกและควบคุมการแพร่พันธุ์ของหนอนแมลงใน มังคุด กล้วย มะม่วง มะละกอ เงาะ สับปะรด ลิ้นจี่ การฉายรังสีนี้ทำให้ไทยสามารถส่งผลไม้เหล่านี้ไปขายประเทศที่มีมาตรการควบคุมการนำเข้าผักและผลไม้ที่เข้มงวดอย่าง ญี่ปุ่น อเมริกา ออสเตรเลีย ฯลฯ

            อย่างไรก็ตาม การนำเทคโนโลยีนิวเคลียร์มาใช้ในอาหารนั้น ที่ผ่านมา “องค์การ[url=https://www.pandalean.com/]体重控制[/url]อนามัยโลก” และ “ทบวงการพลังงานปรมาณูระหว่างประเทศ” ออกมาตรการควบคุมและกำหนดให้การฉายรังสีในอาหารนั้นต้องทำในปริมาณที่พอเหมาะ เพื่อไม่ให้ เกิดโทษอันตรายหรือเกิดปัญหาทางโภชนาการ

         ทำให้เกิดความสงสัยว่าแล้ว “การฉายรังสี” เพื่อฆ่าเชื้อโรคในกล่องไปรษณีย์หรือหีบห่อวัสดุต่างๆ นั้น จะมีความปลอดภัยมากน้อยเพียงไร แม้ไม่ได้กินเข้าไปในร่างกายก็ตาม แต่การจับหรือสัมผัสนั้นมีอันตรายหรือไม่

           “ดร.สมพร จองคำ” ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านเทคโนโลยีนิวเคลียร์ของประเทศไทย อธิบายให้ “คมชัดลึก” ฟังว่า ที่ผ่านมามีการใช้วิธีฉายแสงประเภทต่าง ๆ เพื่อทำความฆ่าเชื้อโรคหรือทำความสะอาดอุปกรณ์การแพทย์ หรือในโรงงานต่าง ๆ มาต่อเนื่องหลายสิบปีแล้ว ในประเทศไทยนิยมใช้ทั้ง “ลำแสงอิเล็กตรอน” และ “รังสีแกมมา” (gamma ray) โดยเฉพาะในการฆ่าเชื้อโรคผลไม้ที่จะส่งออกไปขายต่างประเทศ เช่น  มังคุด  ลำไย มะม่วง หากใช้ในปริมาณที่เหมาะสมก็ไม่มีอันตรายต่อผู้บริโภค

             “แม้ว่ารังสีแกมมากับลำแสงอิเล็กตรอน จะเป็นเทคโนโลยีนิวเคลียร์ทำความสะอาดหรือฆ่าเชื้อโรคเหมือนกัน แต่มีความแตกต่างกันที่รังสีแกมมาจะมีประสิทธิภาพในการทะลุทะลวงมากกว่า นิยมใช้ในลังผลไม้ขนาดใหญ่เป็นหลายสิบกิโลได้ รังสีจะเข้าไปฆ่าเชื้อถึงเปลือกผลไม้เลย เพื่อไม่ให้เกิดตัวหนอนหรือไข่แมลงต่าง ๆ ส่วนลำแสงอิเล็กตรอนจะเหมาะกับการใช้ในผิววัสดุ กล่องวัสดุที่มีขนาดเล็ก แบบหน้ากากอนามัย เข็มฉีดยา อุปกรณ์แพทย์ต่าง ๆ  รังสีเหล่านี้จะไม่ตกค้างในวัสดุ เพราะฉะนั้นจึงมีความปลอดภัยสูง ไม่ก่อให้เกิดมะเร็ง หรืออันตรายใด ๆ”

           ดร.สมพร กล่าวต่อว่า ปัญหาตอนนี้เครื่องฉายลำแสงอิเล็กตรอนยังมีขนาดใหญ่มาก เพราะต้องใช้พลังงานระดับ 30 – 100 ล้านโวลท์ ทำให้ไม่สามารถนำไปใช้งานได้สะดวกมากนัก แต่ในอนาคตจะมีการพัฒนาให้เป็นอุปกรณ์ขนาดเล็กลง สามารถหิ้วไปทำความสะอาดวัสดุต่าง ๆ หรือฆ่าเชื้อโรคได้ง่ายขึ้น

          ขณะที่การพัฒนา เทคโนโลยีนิวเคลียร์ เพื่อช่วยขจัดเชื้อโรคยังอยู่ในระหว่างการทดลองใช้นั้น “เมืองอู่ฮั่น” ที่ถูกสั่งปิดเมืองไปเพราะเป็นต้นตอการแพร่ระบาดเชื้อร้ายไวรัสโคโรนาสายพันธุ์ใหม่นั้น ได้ใช้วิธีการลดการสัมผัสติดต่อกันโดยตรงของมนุษย์ เช่น การเปิด“ร้านขายยาอัจฉริยะ” หรือศูนย์จำหน่ายยา运动与健身ที่ไม่ต้องมี “เภสัชกร” เพื่อช่วยแก้ปัญหาขาดแคลนพนักงานและเภสัชกรในโรงพยาบาลหลายแห่ง เนื่องจากศูนย์ 1 แห่งสามารถบริการผู้ป่วยไม่ต่ำกว่าวันละ 1 พันราย ลดการทำงานของเภสัชกรได้ถึง 60 คนที่ต้องผลัดเวียนเข้ามาจ่ายยาตลอด 24 ชั่วโมง
